The Star Alliance network was formed in 1997 by 5 carriers - Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International and United - to provide customers with greater benefits than each member airline could provide alone.

Today the alliance has 27 members: Adria Airways, Aegean Ailines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Blue1, bmi, brussels airlines, Continental Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines,  Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, Swiss, TAM, TAP, Thai, Turkish Airlines, United and US Airways.

 

Co-ordinated schedules
Many of Star Alliance member airlines' flights have co-ordinated schedules to make connections easier. So wherever you're flying in the world, and however complicated your itinerary, chances are the Star Alliance network can make it easier.

 

Lounges
Finding a place to relax in a busy international airport is never easy. Fortunately, if you're travelling internationally in Business Class, you can enjoy the Business Class lounges of any Star Alliance member airline. And if you're an international First Class passenger, you can enjoy access to the lounges of any Star Alliance member airline, regardless of which one you're travelling with. Overall, there are more than 970 lounges to choose from.

Nowadays, the ability to communicate and have access to information remotely is vital. Star Alliance mobile services for PC, Palm OS mean you can download from the website and access the Star Alliance member airlines' timetables and other information while on the move.
